As announced in our previous article (click here) the project “Greencoast on Air with MARS” took place on 10 October 2026. The satellite connection was made via QO-100 in a geostationary orbit. This project was proposed by HB4FR “Clin d’Ailes” Swiss Air Force Museum HAM Radio Club Payerne – Switzerland. To enable Mauritian students to put questions to Claude Nicolier, the only Swiss astronaut who has already performed many missions in space. The Mauritius Amateur Radio Society (MARS) President addresses, below, all participants in the successful project.
On behalf of the Mauritius Amateur Radio Society (MARS), I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who helped make the QO-100 school contact such a resounding success.
To the Principal, staff and students of Green Coast International School, thank you for your warm welcome, your enthusiasm and your thoughtful preparation. The curiosity and confidence of the students made this an inspiring occasion for all present.
To Claude Nicollier, thank you for generously giving your time and sharing your experiences with our young people. Hearing from an astronaut of your standing is something these students will remember for a very long time, and it may well spark a lifelong interest in science and space.
To Herbert HB9BOU and Team HB4FR, thank you for your technical expertise, your support and your commitment across the distance. The link would not have been possible without you.
To the hams of the Mauritius Amateur Radio Society, thank you for your hard work, dedication and teamwork in setting up, testing and running the station. Your volunteer spirit shows what amateur radio does best: connecting people, inspiring learning and serving the community.
Together, we have shown young Mauritians the wonder of radio communication and satellite technology. We look forward to more such opportunities.
