World Amateur Radio Day

18 April 2021 will be the next World Amateur Radio Day. It was on this day in 1925 that the International Amateur Radio Union was formed in Paris. World Amateur Radio Day is the day when IARU Member Societies can show our capabilities to the public and enjoy global friendship with other Amateurs worldwide. Theme of 2021 will be “Home but never alone”. Due to Covid-19, many gatherings and amateur radio events have been cancelled, however, amateur radio kept us connected.

To celebrate this occasion MARS has requested a special commemorative call sign from the ICTA. This has now been granted by the ICTA, see below for details and conditions.

The ICT Authority has no objection the call sign 3B8xxx/WARD be used by Mauritius Radio Amateurs duly licensed by the ICT Authority  on 18 April 2021 exclusively under the following conditions: –

1)   There should be only one station fixed at a permanent address. All Mauritius Amateur Radio Licence Operators (Class B licence holders) must operate from the said station under the supervision of a Class A licence holder.

2)   The Class A licence holder can operate from the said station without any supervision.

Furthermore, if the Mauritius Amateur Radio Licence Operators (Class A or B licence holders) want to operate from their own station, therefore he will be allowed to use his own call sign together with the suffix /WARD. For example: 3B8xx/WARD.
